Flores, Leicester’s pulutan bar and kitchen opening on Saturday August 25, has added award-winning graphic design company Studio Output to their creative mix.
London and Nottingham-based Studio Output, whose previous work includes a re-branding of digital music station BBC Radio 1 Xtra and projects for Sony Playstation and Ministry of Sound, were part of the creative team behind Nottingham’s award-winning bar and restaurants Bluu and Geisha.
On the Flores project, Studio Output Art Direct Dan Moore commented: “The graphic scheme for Flores evolved from the need to represent the idea of something that was natural, wholsesome and not entirely English. The floral pattern that adorns the walls, bar and glazed panels takes traditional Eastern compositions and creates arrangements of fauna, all made from different food; some of the flowers are made from cauliflower and fish, some are made from mussels and rice.”
Moore added: “The works manifests itself over interior panels, print and the web. For the printwork we have introduced two new colours - a dark grey and a bright acid green accent. Both of these compliment the subtle neutrals used in the bar itself and are used throughout the printwork. The printed materials use rough, pulpy recycled stock to further convey a feeling of authenticity. Finally, certain key items (such as the business cards and menus) contrast this raw feel with rich, glossy foil blocking, to reflect the attention to detail and more expensive tastes that Flores also represents.”
Flores Owner Jonny Bingham added: “After seeing Studio Output’s incredible portfolio of work and the size of client they’ve worked for, the tendering process came to a welcome halt as soon as we met. Studio Output have taken the ‘Flores’ brief and moved it on in an exciting direction; the designs they’ve shown us, which take mushrooms, peppers and fish to create a floral design is a touch of genius. Flores is going to be as much a studio of contemporary design as a place to eat and drink. It’s going to be worth visiting us to see Studio Output’s work as much as enjoying a great dining experience.”
