English comedian, writer, actor, novelist, film-maker and television personality Stephen Fry is who Leicester would most like to invite to dinner, according to a survey carried out by Flores, the city’s newest bar and kitchen set to open on Saturday August 25th.
Flores used a 50ft hoarding at their New Walk home to pose the question: “Cowell, Carey or Confucius, who would you invite to dinner?” Passers-by were asked to visit www.flores-leicester.co.uk and nominate their five perfect dinner guests.
Fry was the most popular choice from over 800 nominations made by the people of Leicester and is accompanied on Flores' perfect table by rocker Elvis Presley, comedian Billy Connolly, playwright Oscar Wilde and author JK Rowling.
Those nominations who just failed to make the final five include BBC Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, Superchef Gordon Ramsey, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and über-Wag Victoria Beckham.
Flores’ Andrew Jones explained: “While the Flores menu contains tastes and flavours you’d never expect, so the responses to our hoarding were equally surprising. From Jesus to Jordan, Einstein to E.T. and Mozart to Morrissey, the people of Leicester have shown a massive amount of inspiration and imagination in answering our initiative - hopefully they’ll appreciate equally the inspiration and imagination we’ve put into Flores' menu.”
Flores’ perfect table would have much to talk about. Fry is the voice of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter audiobooks and was reportedly one of just five people worldwide to know the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before it officially went on sale, he also won universal acclaim for his performance in the 1997 film Wilde, a biopic of the famed Irish playwright.
Connolly and Rowling may have to be separated; Connolly’s biography ‘The Big Yin’, written by wife Pamela Stephenson, was the book that toppled the first Harry Potter (And The Philosopher’s Stone) from the top of the best-sellers after its three-year stay.

Flores style of dining promotes smaller plates of tastes served as an accompaniment to a drink. Flores’ menu has been designed to share those tastes amongst diners’ fellow guests.
